MUTATIONS & Hot Panoramas
The Mutations and Hot Panoramas series transform the idyllic imagery of Southern California—particularly its iconic palm trees—into haunting symbols of ecological crisis, blending beauty with destruction. Gabbiani’s long-standing interest in science fiction informs her use of the word “mutation,” suggesting not only environmental degradation but also a surreal, evolutionary shift in how we perceive and inhabit the world. By setting fire to symbols of paradise, she confronts the fragile reality of a changing climate and the collapse of familiar landscapes.
